Choir/Cantor Information Choir Interest Form


General Information

  • Grades 2 - 8. Click the above Interest Form button if your student is interested in participating.
  • Choir Practice: Wednesdays from 2:50-3:30pm; 10 to 15 minutes may be added to practice if additional rehearsal time is needed prior to a performance.
  • Cantor Practice: Wednesdays from 3:30-4:00pm; 10 to 15 minutes may be added to practice if additional rehearsal time is needed prior to a performance.
  • Schola Practice: Wednesdays from 3:30-4:00pm; 10 to 15 minutes may be added to practice if additional rehearsal time is needed prior to a performance.


Focus Areas and Goals:

  • Learning proper breathing and vocal technique specific to choral singing
  • Building sight singing and reading skills
  • Providing students with opportunities to be soloists or sing in smaller groups
  • Singing at Mass as a Choir (all students) or serving as Cantor (for Middle School students)
  • Performing in up to two internal or external performances throughout the school year
  • Exploring different musical genres together
  • Developing a lifelong love and knowledge of music


A Note from Mrs. Moretti

Music is my lifelong passion. I have had the opportunity to see it enrich the lives of many students, as well as my own. It is my goal that our SMCS Choir becomes a tradition of excellence and a group that the students and school can feel proud of. I continue to be pleased as I hear stories of SMCS Choir and Music alums who are finding success within their given high school as well as community musical experiences. I hope to see that trend continue!


Reminders

  • Time is valuable during rehearsal. Please arrive promptly and ready to begin. Please do not waste time with talking or distracting behavior.
  • Weekly rehearsal attendance is important. Please notify Mrs. Moretti if a student will not attend a practice or needs to leave early.
  • We are working together towards excellence. Please give your personal best effort and applaud the efforts of others.
