Welcome New Faculty
Three wonderful additions to the Monarch Pride!
Middle School Science
Selen Beville became a science teacher after spending the first part of her career in management consulting in Turkey and The Netherlands. She has most recently served as a Middle School science teacher at St. Andrews United Methodist Day School in Edgewater, Maryland where she also organized an annual STEM Fair and coached the school's Girls on the Run chapter for third through fifth graders.
In addition to completing STEM focused training courses at the U.S. Naval Academy, University of Texas and Harvard University, Mrs. Beville holds a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration and an MBA from Yeditepe University in Instanbul. She is currently working toward another Bachelors Degree in Astronomical and Planetary Science from Arizona State University (expected in 2027).
Third Grade
Katy Moorefield is joining us after a career break from teaching at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School in Richmond to stay home with her young children who will also be students at SMCS. Mrs. Moorefield studied International Relations at James Madison University during her undergrad years and earned a Master of Arts degree in Teaching from Liberty University.
Her teaching career has spanned from Pre-K to High School and she has also enjoyed serving in leadership roles including policy outreach and student government advisory positions.
Exceptional Math Teacher
A’Leigh Hamner is a graduate of St. Gertrude High School and Mary Baldwin College where she studied Communications before pursuing her Masters in Elementary Education. She has taught in a variety of educational environments including private, public and parochial schools in Virginia and South Carolina.
Mrs. Hamner will be joining us from All Saints Catholic School where she taught First Grade. She and her family have been an active part of the Catholic Education landscape for many years as both students and educators.
